Middle School Bands Swell in Number

The band programs at Monte Vista and Las Colinas Middle Schools continue to grow. At Monte Vista, Advanced Band has 38 students, Intermediate has 51, and Beginning has 52. As there is a waiting list of more than 55 students for Beginning Band, another section has been added during “zero period” (before school) for those who wish to take Beginning Band but were unable to get into the regularly scheduled class.

Director Trish Copsey said, “I would like to thank SOKM volunteers for raising money for instrument repairs and going after more instrument donations. Many of the students at MVS would not be able to participate if it were not for these efforts.”

At Las Colinas, Director Reese Copsey reports that there are 33 Advanced Band students, 35 Intermediate Band students, and 40 Beginning band students, plus 6 on a waiting list (due to limited space).

Mr. Copsey also expressed appreciation for the instrument repair budget: “Larger instruments like bass clarinets and tenor and bari saxes sometimes cost a bit to keep working, and the mainenance repair budget for instruments loaned to students is very important.” He also said they would be using the new drum set that was donated last year.

Thanks to the donors who help keep instruments in students’ hands!
